1. Frozen (Original Mix)
2. Despero (Original Mix)

Enhanced welcomes newcomers to the label, The Flyers & Mike Sonar with this fantastic double header, already reviewed by leading website trance.nu as 4/5!

Fans of Adymus' Kaleidoscope Eyes will no doubt find favour with this classy outing of bassline driven, slick melodic trance.

Lead track Frozen is a wonderfully powerful production that will rock any dancefloor. On the flip, Despero features a more electro-trance bassline but still encompasses the guy's fantastic smooth melodies.

A really solid debut!

Polls and Reviews / Jorn van Deynhoven - Fastlane [Infrasonic]
« on: July 05, 2009, 07:31:32 pm »

Here is a fresh release from the Infrasonic stable. The track comes from a producer who is mainly famed for his countless remixes for acts such as Majai, Roger Shah, Stan Void, Haris C, Mike Shiver and CJ Stone. He is a Dutch DJ and producer and hails from the city of Amsterdam. Infrasonic presents Jorn van Deynhoven. The remixes comes from Robert Nickson (NL), Rozza (UK) and Haris C (CY). Jorn's track has already seen support from Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond, so there is no reason to doubt that this will be a big one.

1. Fastlane (Original Mix) (7:29)
2. Fastlane (Robert Nickson Remix) (7:19)
3. Fastlane (Rozza Remix) (7:55)
4. Fastlane (Rozza Slow Motion Remix) (8:36)
5. Fastlane (Haris C Remix) (6:39)

Review

Original Mix
Jorn did a brilliant job giving Stan Void's "Transience" a proper club rework last year. I am eager to hear this original and so hopefully he won't dissapoint me. Fastlane is tight club trancer with a heavy bass, sizzling synth lines, and a delicious build-up. It's not the most interesting track I have heard this year but I think it would really work wonders to hear it on a proper sound system.

Robert Nickson Remix
A little more energetic and pumping than the original and the kick is slamming! I think Nickson actually succeeds pushing the lead more forward than Jorn did. Actually, I think that those two versions combined would make the perfect version of this track. Still, great energy and lovely breakdown created by Robert Nickson!

Rozza Remix / Slow Motion Remix
Rozza delivers two mixes this time. He has done some huge, and in my opinion his best, remixes for Infrasonic in the past. Some might remember his remix of "The Path" and "Imagine". It does not take long for me to realize that this one is right up my alley - as per usual Rozza covers the original ideas with his sticky, warm and magnificent melodies. I have always felt that Rozza needed some more space in his productions but still, the outstanding melodies makes up for that in the end. The slower has (duhh) been slowed down a bit and has a few delicious touches which differentiates it from the other Rozza mix. The lovely female vocal lays a perfect finish on the track and again, as in the other mix you can expect great melodies.

Haris C Remix
Big room trancer from Haris here. Liking his use of hi hats and glitches. These contributes to make the production a little interesting for the listener and sort of gives it a unique touch. Pay attention to the crystal clear pads and the tight and pumping bass. Haris also succeeds in bringing out some fantastic melodies in this track. Worth a listen for sure.

Verdict
I feel a little biased praising the Rozza mix given the fact that I like his style so much. But, I have been listening to the different mixes over and over and my conclusion still stands clear - the Rozza mix is the winner. It has so much more feeling and depth compared to the other versions. I was dissapointed with the Nickson mix to be honest and only thing I could really appreciate was the main lead in his version. Original, Haris C and Rozza Remix are strongly recommended if you dig uplifting trance!

Enton Mushi is an electronic music producer hailing from Toronto, Canada. He is now making his debut on newly founded Just Peak Music with a vocal track featuring Kerri Brown. Label boss Dreas (known for his track Havannah) is delivering a remix for the track and Alex Robert (Red Force, Just Peak, Motion Music) has done one for the progressive rooms.

1. Desire (Original Mix) (7:22)
2. Desire (Dreas Remix) (7:57)
3. Desire (Alex Robert Remix) (6:26)
4. Desire (Radio Mix) (4:32)

Review

Original Mix
Not something I would classify as trance even though there are a few supersaws which then adds a little. A bit funky and groovy with a slight touch of dance. Nice work on the percussion and especially in the intro section where a flat snare drum is used. I think the vocal is bit surpressed in this track even though it still works. This tune is proper remix material and the vocal is uplifting, hence perfect for Dreas to remix it.

Dreas Remix
Let's begin with the negative part (which is only a small part); the kick, which sets off from bar 1, feels too heavy for my taste. It cuts through the mix and is stomping throughout the whole track and even though we're dealing with an uplifting and euphoric trancer, I still think it's a bit too much. I can absolutely understand why (An)Dreas snatched this tune up for his label. He really lifts up the gorgeous vocal of Kerry Brown which is the most important part of the track. Lovely melodic arpeggio which is being filtered in and out of the track and not to forget the lead which is bursting an energy which should be perfect for the dancefloor.

Alex Robert Remix
Alex churns out a deeper mix with minimalistick drum elements. Clearly inspired by Nic Chagall (of Cosmic Gate). He absolutely kills it with his breakdown which is nice, flat out with vocals and a nice piano sequence.

Verdict
The Dreas remix is a beauty and I was listening to it on repeat after I downloaded it. The uplifting production and the uplifting vocals, go so well hand-in-hand! I am actually feeling a bit of '2002-2004' trance inspirations in both the vocals and the Dreas remix. It doesn't feel dated but it has that slightly cheesy and happy "lets dance our ass off feel" which I remember from that era - and I'm guilty of enjoying it! 9/10 for the Dreas mix.

Here it is, the last, third and remaining part of the Awakening EP. Red Force has called on two of their own artist to do a mix and Fast Distance from Belgium is delivering a mix as well. Last but not least there is a fresh rework of the title track. Before I start the review let me remind you that Part 1 of the new remixes is available right now in stores.

1. Long Way Home (Fast Distance Remix) (7:42)
2. Long Way Home (Sunny Lax Remix) (7:47)
3. I Am Legend (LavKastor Remix) (7:19)
4. Awakening (Red Force Rework) (8:48)

Review

Long Way Home - Fast Distance Remix
Apart from the intro sweep Fast Distance have added a nice little detail in the beginning of the track. I'm not entirely sure what it is made from but it sounds almost like some noise from a radio or some vocals that have been cut to pieces. Just to clarify it, this is an uplifting and upbeat tune. It's not messing around too much in the introduction phase but quickly filters the melodies in and bridging the gaps between the different phaces with rises and small breakdowns. The essential thing is that it keeps on pushing as if the structure followed a strict upward slope. Long Way Home was a quality tune itself but I feel that Fast Distance picked a nice original way to do this mix - I am not feeling that much "Redstar" left in the mix and yet I love it. The vocal in the break is absolutely gorgeous by the way!

Long Way Home - Sunny Lax Remix
Sunny has been slated a bit lately for experimenting. In his defence, he is very much still producing epic and uplifting material and lately and now he has proved this on his Red Force remix duties. His interpretation of Long Way Home has an ultra crisp and clean sound - you definately sense this by shifting through the different mixes. His choice of different sounds is spot on; from the slightly funky bass, the big and wide lead melodies and the perc elements. This mix reflects the side of Sunny that alot of the fans will appreciate. Make sure you check it out.

I Am Legend - LavKastor Remix
LavKastor brings us a bit of a progressive and floaty mix with some mininal elements. He has snatched a few samples from somewhere and used it in the intro and they feel somewhat out of place. There are also a few drums elements that are out of tune. The way he build of the lead up is quite beautiful though. The progression is the same but the synth has been replaced with something softer and progressive house sounding. I think the good moments in the mix outweighs the less fortunate moments and in the end it ain't too bad at all.

Awakening - Red Force Rework
This rework follows the original recipe but does divert a tiny bit. According to the promo description it was meant to be including in Part 1 but due to some timing issues it ended up here. No worries! I like the additions which are a bassline and some vocals in the breakdown. You can probably discuss if this is any improvement and I haven't bought the idea of reworking it, completely, but it does still sound nice and fresh.

Verdict
Top remixes from both Sunny Lax and Fast Distance on this one! Even though I would usually prefer the style of the Sunny Lax mix I favor the Fast Distance mix which has some good ideas and standout melodies. Still they both get a 9/10!

Polls and Reviews / A.M.R. - Afterhours [Perceptive]
« on: July 02, 2009, 06:26:15 pm »

Amr Hachicho recently released his huge track 'Sand Dunes' which was his second appearence on Enhanced Recordings. This time he is making a return on Perceptive Recordings with his much anticipated track 'Afterhours' which is already being discussed on various music forums. On the remix duties we have a wide range of talented producers from Romania, UK and Russia. Let's take a look at what Perceptive have brought us this time...

Review

Original Mix
Things have been going quite well for this young producer. Personally he has been one of my favourites within the 'uplifing area'. His tracks State Of Mind and Sand Dunes were both a blend of pure melodic bliss and some light tech twist surprises. This time there won't be any 'tech' involved. Afterhours relies on the melodic aspect of the track, and not so much the percussion nor the bass. That is however not bad. The track goes through phases building up to the the lead melody which has been tweaked and twisted. This lead goes very much hand in hand with the carm atmosphere which you will find the breakdown. My mind was lead to Adam Szabo's synth work when I heard this tune but still that is not an entirely fair comparisson as this track feels so much more 'under control' in a weird sense. I feels like AMR has really poured his heart into this production, to put it in a cheesy way.

Suncatcher Remix
To begin with, this mix feels like it has been stripped down. Already after the first phrase this shows, not to be the case. The pads are being filtered in, covering the track with lush surroundings. A rather short synth line helps lifting it up for just a few seconds. The track is quite pulsing and perhaps feels a little more aggressive than the original. Still the overall structure is similar. The lead has been re-used (would be pointless to cut it out) and the break has been reworked in an impressive 'Andy Blueman' style. It really does the trick.

Danny Powers Remix
It felt as if Suncatcher's idea was to improve the original by giving it a facelift. Danny has taken it in a bit of another direction by simply adding his own sound to the track and still keeping the main ideas of the original track; this involves a pulsing and banging bassline. Danny keeps a high momentum throughout the track and the progression of the track and the more aggressive synth covers up the lead a bit. I find this healthy for this release as 4 remixes with all the same main idea in focus would be dull.

Invisible Sounds Remix
The Perceptive boys have yet again pulled in a fresh remixer with a more progressive sound. For those who might not know Invisible Sounds, he has a single out on Enhanced Progressive and another gorgeous one on Insatiable. The percussion is minimal sounding and he plays well with the drum setup thoughout the whole track (not just the intro). He makes use of different sweeps, synth shots and cymbals. I am absolutely drawn by how colourful this track is, at least compared to todays standards. The bass makes the track move a bit and in the middle of it all the lead gets its time to shine.

Verdict
Again, the quality shines through in every mix, which has been common to the past few Perceptive releases. The two favourites are the Invisible Sounds remix and the Original Mix. There are places were Invisible Sounds could have created some more space in the mix as the drums just feels like they were squeezed together. I do like his approach in his mix and great to see him join the label. A.M.R. has yet to dissapoint me with his original tracks and this is another excellent track from him. Less exciting percussion but brilliant melodies!

Polls and Reviews / Temple One - String Theory [Enhanced]
« on: June 29, 2009, 12:15:46 pm »

1. String Theory (Original Mix)
2. String Theory (M6 Remix)

Armin van Buuren = “One of my favourite tunes at the moment” (ASOT 410)
Above & Beyond = TATW Support
Ferry Corsten = Corsten’s Countdown Support

Since bursting onto the scene in 2006, Temple One aka Joe Garrett has been one of the most in demand producers and remixers in the trance scene.

Heralded by Armin van Buuren as 'one of my favourite producers today,' Joe is one of the hottest UK artists in 2009. With consistent support from every major DJ worth their salt, and featuring on every major radio show, compilation and set list going, he has a knack of producing the kind of music capable of giving goose bumps to the deceased.

Following his quite simply massive Aurora EP last year, Joe serves up another slice of peak time perfection. Already supported by Armin van Buuren on several  ASOT’s, Above & Beyond on TATW and Ferry Corsten on Corsten’s Countdown, , this is sure to be another sure fire hit for Temple One.

With a film score esq break with haunting synths and pads, this is once again a big-room anthem, with a darker theme than Joe's previous productions.

Enhanced welcomes Mark Sixma for the first time to the label, and he turns out a stunning remix under his M6 guise. Adding techy elements to the original's strong lead, Mark really takes the track in a different direction, for the darker dancefloors.

Full Supportlist: Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Activa, Adam White, Ali Wilson, Andre Visior, Andrew Howlett, Bart Claessen, Chad Cisneros Tritonal, Charlie G, Dan Stone, Daniel Kandi, Danjo, Deep Voices, Digital Nature, Dimitri Kechagias, Ernesto vs Bastien, Estiva, Fast Distance, Ferry Tayle, Gil La, Haris C, Jon O'Bir, Jonathan Martin, Joni Ljungqvist, Jussi Soro, Kane Nelson, Ken Spector, Kenneth Thomas, Lange, Lee Haslam, Les Hemstock, Maarten Hercules, Manuel Saux, Mark Sherry, Melle Bakker Setrise, Michael Angelo, Michael Badal, MIKE, Mike Cowie NZ, Mike Koglin, Mike Saint Jules, Misja Helsloot, Neal Scarborough, Neil Moore, Nicholas Bennison, Orjan Nilsen, Paul Pearson, Phillip Alpha, Rav Takhar, Robert Geitleman, Robert Nickson, Ronski Speed, Ruben de Ronde, Scott Bond, Sebastian Brandt, Sequentia, Signum, Sophie Sugar, Steve Anderson, Super8 & Tab, Suzy Solar, Talla 2XLC, Tania Mann, Tempo Giusto, Thomas Arctic Moon, Tillmann Uhrmacher, Tom Colontonio, Will Holland, Xgenic and many many more!

Polls and Reviews / Tom Colontonio - Sparkover EP [Monster Tunes]
« on: June 29, 2009, 10:56:05 am »

Monster Tunes pres. America's uplifting 'God' Tom Colontonio. Throughout the last couple of years he has been churning out tunes on some of the biggest and most respected labels in the industry. A personal favourite of mine would be Modern Day Madness and Omega Thursday. Just (very) recently Tom remixed 'Seven Weeks' by Sean Tyas, released on Sander van Doorn infamous label 'Doorn Records' - this time around Sean Tyas is remixing for Tom. On this release you will, as mentioned, find a Sean Tyas remix of the title track 'Sparkover' plus the original mix and a bit of a bonus track called 'Walk Through Berlin'.

Review

Sparkover Sean Tyas Remix
As usual Tyas delivers a supertight mix with a good amount of energy and punchy drums. He really understands how to push his productions and the transitions from 1 phrase to another are always spot on, inducing extra energy step-by-step. The stabbing melody throughout the tune is not something I would classify as original but it does the job, well. The big pay-off in this track is in my opinion what it is all about - the energy is fantastic and I can really see myself in a big arena with thousands of other jumping and dancing clubbers.

Sparkover Original Mix
The original mix is without a doubt driven by the synth setup. The percussion is not as interesting as I had hoped for. What I do appreciate is the crisp underlying acid-lines, the pumping bass and main lead melody which seems to work better than in the remix.

Walk Through Berlin
Colontonio uses a similar bass (maybe just a tad punchier). Do notice the techy, stabbing and kind of "metallic" sounding synth that builds up the track in the most proper way. While 'Sparkover' was a bit more of a hands in the air tune with a memorable melody this is more of a dance your butt off, cause of that ungoing energy it bursts.

Verdict
It was actually quite hard for me to point out a favourite as all three track are on the same level, quality wize. In the end it only comes down to my own taste, and 'Walk Through Berlin' just seems to me like a good quality filler, perfect to squeeze inbetween the peak-timers while still keeping a good amount of energy going and keeping the crowd happy. Overall a very good release from Tom, perhaps some of the best I have heard from him.

Polls and Reviews / Cold Blue - Journey Home / Fever [Monster Tunes]
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:59:24 am »

Tobias Schuh also known as Cold Blue, is on the rise and has been exactly that for a while now. Three brilliant releases on DJ Shah's label, a nothing short of 'huge' record on the legendary In Trance We Trust, two on High Contrast and now his second record on Monster Tunes. Latest news is that he has a record forthcoming on Anjunabeats. He is very much known for his upbeat and uplifting style with grand melodies. This new record is a two-tracker which has already seen support from two of the biggest names in the industry, and that being Above & Beyond and Ferry Corsten.

Review

Journey Home
Tobias sets off the track with a delayed hit-hat as an effect. The whole percussion setup is a mixture of a punding kick, a set of balearic drums and hi-hats. After the first phrase, an acid line sets in and is slowly being filtered in. At the beginning of the third phrase (bassline already going strong) the claps begins as well as the melody. This is where I am begging for the breakdown to start as I am missing a bit of energy or a basic deeper feel to the track. However, I am liking the warm bass which has a nice drive to it. I do appreciate his approach to things in the breakdown; the way the gentle synth with only a few notes keeps pleasing me as well as the overall padded atmosphere - a simple but very clear piano sequence is being filtered in and basicly builds the anticipation for the big payoff.

Fever
I feel that Fever diverts a tiny bit from being a standard trancer on the 'originality scale'. I just love the delayed percussive sound that rolls accross the track in the intro part. Things like that is always appreciated, as well is the soaring vocal sample which adds some life and emotion to the track. Opposed to Journey Home the main lead in this track feels somewhat stronger and addictive. While Journey Home and Fever are running at the same exact speed, Fever does feel much more like a progressive trancer - the mix overall feels a whole lot more 'spacey' in a positive way.

Verdict:
I think it is quite clear which mix I prefer. Overall Fever feels much more original and fresh. I have always liked the style of Cold Blue but I am not blown by this. On the other hand I am far from dissapointed as Fever delivers a good and above average trance track.

Polls and Reviews / Anhken - Simplify EP [Enhanced Progressive]
« on: June 17, 2009, 05:22:04 pm »

1. Simplify
2. Interleaved

Anhken follows last year's 'If Not Me' in fine style with this classy double header, Simplify / Interleaved.

Simplify sends us rocketing into summer with its beautifully constructed chords and lead synths, whilst backing it with really clever percussion and bass. Interleaved see's Anhken move away from his usual side with a fantastic stripped down, more minimal trance affair with some of the best percussion arrangements we've heard in a trance track in a long time.

Fantastic stuff once again from this uber-talented Romanian.

2. Daniel Kandi Short Mix

To say there is a fair amount of hype around this release would be somewhat of an understatement!

Crowned Tune Of The Week on ASOT 403 by Armin van Buuren and voted Web Vote Winner on Trance Around The World with Above & Beyond. This has been without a doubt one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

A.M.R. blasted onto the scene last year with his double header As Time Goes By / Beach Sunset.
Now he's back with the fantastic Sand Dunes on Enhanced Recordings, with superb remixes from Daniel Kandi and Joel Gershom to boot.

Kandi's mixes display the best of the Anjuna-mans skills, adding huge amounts of power to the already excellently crafted original, whilst Joel Gershom turns out a fantastic prog-trancer with an immensely powerful breakdown and pulsing bassline!

Polls and Reviews / Marc Walsh - Never Far Away [Monster Tunes]
« on: June 17, 2009, 02:48:05 am »

Monster Tunes are doing a brilliant job keeping a steady output and next release is not even far away. But first, a new track from Marc Walsh which would be his debut on Monster Tunes and even on the main imprint! On the remix duties there are some heavy weights! Activa who is pretty much man of the moment with numerous remixes out on different labels. Black Hole signed producer Existone and Neptune Project whom have had a brilliant release on Breathe Music plus an upcoming bomb on Armada called "Aztek" which has been praised by Armin van Buuren.

1. Activa Remix
2. Existone Remix
3. Neptune Project Remix
4. Original Mix

Review

The Activa remix is the first track and is starting out by filtering the various elements and around the 1 minute mark, release! He has given the track his energetic and pumping treatment with his trademark rolling bassline and additional acid lines. The breakdown contains the epic theme from the original version, but it does sound much more clean and crisp somehow. Sergey Zarubin is going for a more euphoric route in his Existone remix. He also keeps things moving and energetic with a thick bassline and some slamming percussion. The melodies are truly the elements that makes this mix stand out; slowly adding more melody throughout the track and finally delivering the full pay-off in the breakdown. Lets head on to the Neptune Project remix. The kick is just as rock hard as the one Activa used and I am loving the delayed synth stabs used  in the intro part - they do however not sound very unique. The boys go for a carm and pleasent feel vs. the more Discover-type banging feel. The pads and the stabs are without a doubt my favourite elements. When you hear the original mix you will understand why Monster Tunes decided to sign it and you will also notice that the remixers re-used alot of Marc's ideas. The only thing I am missing in the original is a progression that is a tiny bit more exciting, but apart from that I am all over his melodies and pads.

Verdict
This is so far my favourite Monster Tunes record of 2009. The Existone and original mix are cause of that. They are of sheer brilliance and are both more than enough complete the package. I do however know that the Activa fanbase will go crazy over his remix and he did what he was expected to and supposed to, at least in my opinion. 9/10 for the Existone remix which I have already supported.

Polls and Reviews / Waterspark - Lego [Nu-Depth]
« on: June 16, 2009, 05:22:08 pm »

I easily remember Waterspark also known as Daniel Costache's first single "Fairway" which was released on Ask4 and blessed with remixes from the likes of Mat Zo and Digitalis. I also remember that as being a fairly decent single, which then only makes me even more excited about reviewing his new tune "Lego", currently loaded in my trusty winamp player. The single will be released next week on Nu-Depth Recordings and they have found a few well-known players to remix the track. First up is one of the most popular names in trance, known for his huge releases on Perceptive Recordings, Andy Blueman. Further more this single contains a remix from rising star and Discover Records signed, Gary Maguire and last but not least Dave Horne who recently had his debut on Nu-Depth Digital.

Review

The original mix begins with a very dark and mysterious intro that transends into some lush trance stabs. This is all before the bassline sets in followed by a hard kick and the additional usual percussive sounds on top. Daniel keeps on adding melodic layers until the obligatory breakdown enters. I am loving the soft padded and laidback atmosphere the subtle bass and the surrounding melodies which the breakdown holds. The track gets another boost but there is not an energetic drop or huge climax - the beauty is all in the break here. The Andy Blueman remix is much more energetic but also takes a few light footsteps before taking off. This by filtering the percussion and using some background layers. Andy really understands how to lift the track to a much more exciting level transforming it into a proper 'dance' tune. It does however not have such an elegant finish as the original. Sometimes less is more. Next off is the Gary Maguire remix which does not start off as beautifully as either the blueman remix or the original, but his banging and vibrating bass is something to write home about. Also the way that this heavy bass is working with Gary's own reworked version of the melody is really exceptional. Staying true to the melody but still lifting the track and injecting that climax that the original was missing. I amm loving the way the Dave Horne remix made space for the clap and additional percussion samples, by not making it clash with the bass notes. I am a big fan of drums and percussive sounds but these days they do not get too much attention in trance productions. Thankfully they had just a little bit of attention in this remix. This remix is a deeper interpretation with a lot of focus on the melody and I must say it is quite well put together.

Verdict
Most importantly the original has some good qualities and great ideas. It has without a doubt created a foundation for these remixers to work with. I was instantly captivated by the Gary Maguires remix; It might not be as aggressive and fast paced as the Andy Blueman remix but for me it just holds so much more energy and dancefloor potential. I am also a fan of Dave Horne's progressive treatment which is quite brilliant.

Out next week!
