When will this be fixed, it's freakin' hard to browse the forums at the moment.

Yes it is very annoying. I contacted vBulletin and opened a bug report, have a look at the vague, non-relevent replies I got:

This pisses me off just as much as it does you. This has been an issue in vBulletin 3 since the betas! And they released it without fixing it. :mad:

phpBB does it a very nasty way. It fetches every single thread thats been unread since the users last visit, if you haven't visited in a few weeks on a popular forum then it could potentially eat alot of cpu time and memory, it then loops through the array and checks to see if you have corresponding cookies for every thread entry.ß
Dood, that ain't true! (about the cookies) I have cookies disabled and it shows all the new/old posts normaly even on big forums + it doesn't realy do it *that* nasty and use *so* much CPU :p
