The Art / The Art -Show Cancelled-
« on: May 26, 2006, 05:45:23 pm »
Hello,

I am sorry to say that after a mere five editions, I am going to have to cancel the show.  Since it wouldn't be fair to do this without an explanation, here's what's going on:

I've been diagnosed with two different types of arthritis, psoriasis (makes my skin grow too fast), angeo adema (randomly swells a body part, including organs), and urticaria (random hives).  I'm currently on low-level chemotherapy to attempt to address some of this, but overall it takes its toll.  The result is that I'm in constant pain, and energy is difficult to come by.

My sister has been diagnosed with a type of arthritis, Hosimoto's disease (food -> energy doesn't really work), and fibromyalgia (every single nerve in her body is in pain 24/7, all of her life).  This has led to massive depression, suicidal stuff, etc.  I've been dealing with this somewhat because my father's an ass and my mom is the subject of the next paragraph.

My mother has been diagnosed with a million things, here's the worst of it:
Compressed spinal cord.  Basically its very difficult for signals from the brain to reach her body.  Practically this means that if she gets rear-ended while driving, its likely she gets paralyzed or killed.  Requires surgery through her neck (preliminary already done, main operation taking place in early July).
Disassociative Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Big fancy name for my mom having trouble telling the difference between the real world and a world made up somewhere in her brain.  This has also led very close to multiple personalities.

My father's participation in this has been to tell me sister she's a failure because she's depressed, and to yell at my mother that she should be doing more around the house.  Oh, and to yell at everybody about money.

So I've been driving down to my parents', down to my sister's, to doctors, etc, dealing with all of this simultaneously, and this means that free time is rather hard to come by.  Which is where we get to the fundamental reason I'm cancelling the show.

I promised myself that if The Art ever came to feel like work instead of something relaxing and fun, I'd cancel it.  At this point, to do The Art I have to summon up energy that I don't really have much of and force myself to get it done, and that isn't relaxing or fun.  If there wasn't so much crazy stuff going on in my life, The Art would be relaxing and fun - instead, its something else I have to do.

I hope that this all helps explain why I'm cancelling.  If you have any questions/comments, feel free to post a reply and I'll answer/reply to them.

Again, my apologies, and may all your mixes be smooth.

Mydnyte

P.S.  I'll still do guest mixes for whoever wants 'em *cough* MackerMD *cough*

The Art / The Art of Progressive Trance (TA005)
« on: May 10, 2006, 09:52:40 am »
This week we're going back to the prog trance, mixin' it up with the smoothness you've come to expect  ;)  There'll be artists like Above & Beyond, Mike Koglin, Robert Nickson, and of course at least one old track that will bring back memories (what will it be, what WILL it be?!)

I'll be in the chatroom, tracklist and download link up after, yada yada yada.  So join me for The Art of Progressive Trance, and I hope you enjoy!

The Art / Readme First! (concise and important information)
« on: May 04, 2006, 06:22:43 pm »
Welcome to The Art section of the Party107 forums.
The Art goes live at 9pm EST every Friday on Party107, and every set is done live, not pre-recorded (unless otherwise specified).

Each week a new topic will be posted, usually a day or two before, letting you know the gist of what will be played that Friday.  Then, after the set, a tracklist will be posted (artist, trackname, mix if applicable).  A day or two after that, a download link will be posted.

"We will host your file forever for free, until it is unused for 21 days. If nobody downloads your file for 21 days, it is automatically deleted."  This means that, after a few weeks, the download links will most likely not work.  If you want to download something and find the link is broken, make a post - I check the forums fairly regularly (at least once a week :p ).  If I see such a post, I'll upload the file again and edit the link, then reply that its available again.

To use the download links, click on them and you will be redirected to MegaUpload.  Wait 45 secs.  Then, at the top right you will see a box that says "MegaUpload Links", with an orange X at the top right.  Click the X.  This reveals the "Click Here To Download".  Click there and you are good to go :)

If I think of anything else that should be in here, I'll put it here :)

The Art / The Art of Who Knows? (TA004)
« on: May 04, 2006, 03:50:11 pm »
Hi all,

As I'm still recovering from a nasty bout of bronchitis (ugh), this week won't be a prepared set of any kind.  I'll have all my vinyl out (including the...uhhhh...esoteric stuff) and all my CDs out (nearly all normal) and I'm basically going to do an informal, hang-out set.  Talking a bunch, taking requests (I probably don't have the specific track, but give me the gist and I'll find something), and I think I'll close with an excerpt of Mydnyte + alcohol + spinning + trying to figure out how to turn everything off at the end of a set.  The idea of this is I can cough my guts out and be somewhat shaking and it won't make a whole lot of difference  ;)

Hope to see you in the chat channel!

The Art / The Art (04-28-06) -+CANCELLED+-
« on: April 26, 2006, 04:29:03 pm »
Hi all,

I'll be going out of town this week, making a live show impossible.  My goal was to have a pre-recorded set ready, but this week has been utterly insane (mother developing multiple personalities, sister disappearing then being found chained to trees to feel more "real", etc) so I haven't had any time at all.

My apologies, and I'll see you all next week.

The Art / The Art of High Energy (TA003)
« on: April 20, 2006, 02:39:11 pm »
This week we're going to the opposite side of the spectrum from last week.  Last week was relaxed breaks and house; this week we start a touch below hard progressive trance, get to hard progressive trance quickly, stick there for a while, and then we get harder, ending with a hard trance track that will rock your world.  As always, I'll be in the Party107 chatroom, and the tracklist will be up after the show.

Hope you enjoy!

The Art / The Art of The Afterparty (TA002) (04-14-06)
« on: April 13, 2006, 07:45:30 am »
This week is a much more relaxed, deeper set than I usually spin. Comprised of breaks and house, this will put you in that wonderful place where you've just had a killer night and its time to chill out and chat with your mates at the afterparty. As always, I'll be in the Party107 chatroom and the tracklist will be up after the show.

Hope you enjoy!

The Art / The Art of Techno (CD series) downloads
« on: April 09, 2006, 10:46:40 pm »
Here are download links for those of you who haven't heard this series.

Information
This series was started when I was in high school.  The first two CDs were made using Winampo and a crappy wave recorder, but sold over 300 copies at $5 each, and were so popular that when I came to college and was rushing fraternities, I discovered that my CDs were even popular there!

The third CD was the first to be mixed with turntables, and the fourth CD was the first that I considered truly "good".  From then on, as my skill and equipment quality have increased, I have continued making CDs.  My eighth, which I made in November '05, I consider to be my best.

Enjoy, and remember - spread my name!   ;)

Links
The Art of Techno - Dreams in the Nyte The fourth CD in the series, this is all progressive trance.
The Art of Techno - Living in the Moment The fifth CD in the series, this one is...well, nuts.  Hard progressive trance, hard trance, and hard house, with 22 tracks in 72 minutes, double-drops, a little scratching...don't drive with this in the car.  Most impressive thing about this CD?  It was mixed with TERRIBLE gear (Numark TT-1520 turntables and a Numark DM1001X mixer)
The Art of Techno - Urban Voices The sixth CD in the series, there are vocals in every track.  With a more relaxed, house feel, along with some breaks in the middle ending with just a touch of trance, this is an excellent background CD, and is the favorite of many.
The Art of Techno - Demonstration The seventh CD of the series, this is closest in spirit to the 4th CD.  Listen and enjoy.
The Art of Techno - As Autumn Leaves Mixed live on Party107, this eighth CD in the series has the smoothest mixes and (in my opinion) flows the best of the progressive trance CDs.  Mixed in November 2005, nearly every track on the CD had been released within a month.  My personal favorite.

Enjoy!

Hi all,

Been a long break for me, but I've got time, and that means tunage!  This week you'll be listening to progressive trance, mostly from 2006 but also stuff from as early as 1997.  As always, the show will be live, so you can chat with me in the Party107 chatroom.  Also as always, the tracklist will be posted at the end of the show.

Hope you enjoy!

DJ Talk / Mix Submission / Production techniques
« on: November 10, 2005, 10:38:26 pm »
Hi all,

So I've attempted producing with Reason, and I have like eight half-finished ones.  My problem is two-fold:

1. I just can't seem to get Reason to make the sound that's in my head.  I can get it to make plenty of cool sounds, just not the RIGHT ones.  Does anyone else have this problem?
2. It takes sooooooooo bloody long to finish a track.  My tracks are always rather complex anyway (complicated melodies, 4-5 synths running at a time until the middle, when something unique happens, etc) and I get bored and frustrated and never come back to it.

I've noticed that we have a few people on here who have produced something that got pressed, so I was hoping I could get some advice/tips/etc, e.g.
What do you use to produce?
Can you get it to make the sounds that are in your head?
Is it boring/frustrating actually completing a track, and if so, how do you get yourself to complete it?
How do you get in contact with a label?
How does the monetary stuff work with a label?
Anything else?

Thanks!

Idle Conversation / Hi again
« on: November 09, 2005, 04:29:43 pm »
Hey guys,

Sure has been awhile, love the new site!  Emailing of username/password doesn't seem to work though - it still has drew_thesgt@yahoo.com in there somewhere, but when I asked to get my info, no email was ever sent *shrugs*

Anyways, on to the interesting stuff.  Which of my CDs do you have?  As in, do you have numbers 6 (Urban Voices) and 7 (Demonstration)?  If not, simply reply and I'll get them sent to you.  Also, I have CD8 figured out, and was thinking about recording it while spinning on Party107, now that I have a tiny bit of time to spare.  What do you think?

Tracklists of the three CDs are below.  CD6 is a chillin', almost vocal trance/house...kinda hard to describe.  CD7 is flat-out club.  CD8 is pure 'epic' trance.  Let me know what you think, feedback is good!

Other than that...uhhh...hi again  :)
