Have you ever heard Lossless Audio on your computer? or in a Digital Format?
Mp3's are LOSSY which means they take part of the song away to compress it, LOSSLESS is CD quality in its purest form, too bad it isnt easily compressable

This thread http://jonof.edgenetwork.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130 mentions some lossless audio stuff, although people focused more on lossless image compression.

Check out Flac (http://flac.sourceforge.net/). I just encoded a 1:26 file in wav, and then in Flac.
Wav = 14.5MB
Flac = 10.0MB
Very cool open source codec.

I have heard of FLAC before, it looks very cool. I am glad to see portable players using it and music artists aswell. I will check it out

Flac seems to be very good, but can you play a flac file on a normal player?
Or need you special plug ins?
I heared different things about it, but lot's of them say just the opposite !! :rolleyes:

Check out software that supports FLAC:

I've been looking on the site, but didn't saw that (oops)
Sorry for stupid question, I had to look better first :s

hey guys... sorry but how can set a picture in my profile?

I've ripped plenty of lossless stuff, and while there is a noticeable difference, it isn't worth it, in my opinion, to keep your entire music collection in lossless, especially since the hard drive space necessary to do that would be in the hundreds of GBs. 320 kbps is just fine if you *must* have really high quality, and 192 is still great. People can be fanatics about high quality, but the difference is barely audible unless you are trying to discern differences.

I've tried flac. It is very good. thanks for the info.

Well then what might be the actual size of 5 mb mp3 song in lossless format? Isn't there any other format other than this lossless format.
