Talking To Dutch: Mark making Bitterballen?

I want to try Bitterballen. Which out of these two recipes is more like the real thing?

http://members.home.nl/cookingdutch...Meatball%20Hors

http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/getrecipe.zsp?id=18460

(Or if you make them a special way )

Also, what kind of oil [vegetable, corn, peanut, shortening, etc] and any specific kind of mustard?

Savory Creamy Meatballs would be an appropriate translation of the word 'bitterballen'. These deep-fried meatballs are filled with a beef ragout and have a crispy outside. They are often served at cocktail parties or as a snack with a pre-dinner drink. You eat these tasty deep-fried morsels hot, on a toothpick, dipped in mustard.

very detailed : http://members.home.nl/cookingdutch/Recipes.html#Bitterballen%20(Meatball%20Hors .. aka gran'mas balls ;] .. imo .. but now readin 2nd [its pretty accurate .. but people dont make em.. they BUY em deepfrozen .. -> simpler, cheaper ;P

http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/getrecipe.zsp?id=18460 <<-- gives a better impression of the balls

In the middle of this page, u see a picture of a few BITTERBALLEN .. which are the 'ball' versions [smaller] than a croquette .. shown above it --> http://www.frikandel.de/de/co/kroketten.html

I like 'frikandellen' too : http://www.go.to/fricadel .. click on some pictures to enlarge

Several NON standard ways to heatup a 'frikandel' : http://home.wanadoo.nl/jackg/foto.html

mp3s about frikandellen : http://members.lycos.nl/hoelenpapers/

do the frikandellen test to see if u can handle our snackfood : http://home.wanadoo.nl/jackg/friktest.zip

more dutch snackfood pictures to compare : http://www.cafetariarikken.nl/bedrijf/fotos.htm

Iow, bitterballen is just ONE of the TINY snackfoods, which has the same ingredients as a 'kroket' only in a size, that u can swallow it in whole..

Hope this info is helpful...

have fun..

and happy snackin'
